ACEC’s Nationwide Program Receives Public Support from Governmental Plenipotentiary

22 May 2013

The Slovak Governmental Plenipotentiary Office for the Roma Community has publicly announced support for ACEC’s Nationwide Program for coordinators and healthcare assistants. The Office will reinforce its commitment by institutionalizing the Program. This announcement came in the regular ACEC Platform meeting on health promotion for disadvantaged communities. During the meeting, discussions centered on the exchange of current information, the launch of the national wide program, and the steps needed to launch the program.

Currently in the Slovak Republic there is no legislation that supports public policies and implementation addressing health issues in Roma settlements. Development of a systematic health education program in Roma communities throughout Slovakia using health education assistants directly from segregated communities is vital. This focus creates local employment, improves access to health care, and extends benefits into the community.
